SAMHSA’s National Help Line– Free, confidential, and available 24/7 nationwide at 1‑800‑662‑HELP (4357). Provides referrals to local treatment services. This resource sometimes provides grants for rehabilitation.
American Addiction Centers (AAC)– Mississippi-specific, 24/7. Call (866) 929‑7369 for guidance, support, or to discuss treatment options with an admissions navigator.
SMART Recovery– a nationwide, nonprofit organization which offers free support groups to individuals who desire to gain independence from any type of addictive behavior.
Recovered.org– Offers a national directory of treatment facilities, such as outpatient facilities, inpatient facilities, and detox centers.
Narcan (Naloxone)– Available as a nasal spray or injectable. Restores normal breathing in 2-3 minutes if someone has overdosed on opiods. Not harmful if given by mistake. IN ALL 50 STATES, NARCAN (NALOXONE) CAN BE OBTAINED WITHOUT A PRESCRIPTION AT MOST PHARMACIES AND COMMUNITY HEALTH ORGANIZATIONS.
Samaritan’s Law– A law in Mississippi (and some other states) that protects people from legal consequences when seeking emergency help during an overdose situation. If someone calls to report an overdose, they are usually protected from arrest or prosecution on certain low-level offenses. Applies to both the caller and the person overdosing.

Drug Court- An alternative path to justice and rehabilitation to promote long term sobriety and reduce mass incarceration and spend less tax dollars on housing incarcerated peoples. Participants are to report in mandatory drug rehabilitation, scheduled drug tests, and counseling under the direct supervision of a judge. Eligibility is subjective, violent charges are not eligible for drug court.
